Divisibility Test for #2

First of all remember that:

Divisibility

When we say something like "a number is divisible by" means "when you divide one whole number by another whole number the result is a also a whole number"

  • 30 is divisible by 5, because 30 ÷ 5 = 6 (and 6 is a whole number).
  • 30 is NOT divisible by 8, because 30 ÷ 8 = 3.75 (and 3.75 is NOT a whole number).

 

Divisibility Test for 2
A whole number is divisible by 2 when it ends with 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8. It means that only even numbers are divisible by 2.

 

Example 1

30 is divisible by 2, because 30 ends up with "0".

30÷ 2 = 15 (and 15 is a whole number).

 

Example 2

345,458,786 is divisible by 2, because 345,458,786 ends up with "6".

345,458,786÷ 2 = 172,729,393 (and 172,729,393 is a whole number).

 

Example 3

347 is NOT divisible by 2, because 347 ends up with "7".

♦ check! ♦
347÷ 2 = 173.5 (and 173.5 is NOT a whole number). ×
